Tess of the d'Ubervilles

Oggi vi posto un'illustrazione che ho tratto da un libro che mi è piaciuto tantissimo: Tess of the d'Ubervilles di Thomas Hardy.
Ok, FORSE la storia è un TANTINO triste, ma per come è scritto e per le riflessioni che Hardy mette in bocca ai suoi protagonisti, una lettura estiva la merita sicuramente! ;)

"Lei (Tess) non era un'esistenza, un'esperienza, una passione, un complesso di sensazioni per nessuno all'infuori che per se stessa. Per tutto il resto dell'umanità, Tess non era altro che un pensiero fugace. Perfino per gli amici non era altro che un pensiero che, forse, passava nel loro cervello più di frequente.
Se anche si disperava giorno e notte, la maggior parte di loro avrebbe fatto questo commento: "Ah, vuole rendersi infelice [...]
La massima parte della sua infelicità nasceva dalla sua situazione nei confronti delle convenzioni sociali e non dalle sue convinzioni innate."


Today I'm posting an illustration I made of a book I loooooved: Tess of the d'Ubervilles by Thomas Hardy.
Ok, MAYBE the story is a BIT sad, but for its writing style and for the reflections that Hardy put in his characters' minds, this novel definitely deserves a summer reading! ;)

"She (Tess) was not an existence, an experience, a passion, a structure of sensations, to anybody but herself. To all humankind besides Tess was only a passing thought. Even to friends she was no more frequently than a passing thought. If she made herself miserable the livelong night and day it was only this much to them -"Ah, she makes herself unhappy."
[...] Most of the misery had been generated by her conventional aspect, and not by her innate sensations."
